Think of a time when you had a vision or something you wanted to accomplish and needed to hear the words You Can Do This! I bet you can instantly recall the people in your life who believed in you during these times while pushing towards a goal.
Why are these people so different? Why do they stand out above everyone else?
There are three characteristics that set these people apart from others:
- Text Editor
- Always saying kind and encouraging words.
- Being there to offer a hand of support when needed.
- Willing to go the extra mile with you no matter how hard it gets.
~ You cannot believe in someone without showing them the above qualities. ~
So, what happens to those who have the impression that others do not believe in them? These individuals have a sense of not belonging, feeling less worthy, and they will put forth little effort because “Why try! It won’t be good enough!”
Take this test to see if you are the kind of teacher who believes in your students. It does not matter if you are teaching in a classroom or educating your children at home. So, challenge yourself, and take this test.
- I am a devoted “listener” when students want to discuss something with me.
- I give my “undivided attention” to help students look at a problem with a different set of eyes.
- I am an “encourager always saying kind words”, even when these words are unexpected.
- I only say, “good things about all students” and will not take part in hearing others talk ill will of them.
- I “offer support” when needed and even make a point that I am still believing in them to reach their goal.
- I occasionally ”check-in” with students to share their progress and encourage them to work towards the finish line.
- I “go the extra mile” to help students who are struggling, no matter the cost.
- I share with students what it means “to believe” so, in turn, they will learn to believe in others.
- I have earned the students’ “respect” because I show with my actions that I “believe in every one of them!”
- I know that I have been successful believing in others when the students voice to me their “sincerity and gratefulness”.
