Maybe you were one of those students who excelled in everything - academics, sports, art, honors society. And you didn’t even have to study! You might have even been fortunate enough to be at the top 5% of your class. Count your blessings!

This is the time of year I think about all of the students who are not as fortunate to receive an award no matter how hard they try. We have even given these students names, such as “underachievers”, “lazy”, “below average learners”. But, is this really true? What about those students who try, try, and try again but come up short on award day?

It doesn’t matter if you teach a class or homeschool your children. Take the time to find something these students excel in, and then remember to reward them too. It only takes one person who is understanding and compassionate to place an award where honor is due. Be the one who makes a difference, even if it is in just one student’s life. Make a difference this week!
